ReadiBus Training Services offers several different
courses on matters related to ReadiBus' work. Course modules are very flexible;
this page describes a typical one-day course, covering both the
"theory" of disability awareness, and the practical issues involved
in such skills as wheelchair handling.
The emphasis is on practical training and participation.
Group discussion, role play exercises, videos and theory are included. Your

Course outline, aims, objectives, and expectations.
What is disability? Developing a professional and
non-patronising approach. Disability and the language we use.
Responsibilities; communication with pupils, school and
parents. Pupil management. Guidelines on handling difficult behaviour. How to deal
with an epileptic seizure.
Causes of pain and strain. Manual handling regulations.
Guidelines for safe handling.
Assisting ambulant passengers and wheelchair users.
Controlling a wheelchair, negotiating kerbs, and understanding the perspective
of those being assisted. Assisting people who are blind or partially sighted.
Safe use of passenger lifts and ramps. Use of wheelchair
and passenger restraint equipment. Transport of electric wheelchairs. Awareness
of legal issues and procedure for emergencies.
